Sofia - the Insider's Guide' has been the leading English-language companion for foreign visitors to Bulgaria's capital since Spring 2003 (it was originally known as 'Sofia Inside & out' but changed its name in January 2005).
It was started by Christine Milner and Paromita Sanatani, friends who have both lived and worked in Bulgaria since 1993 and bring together a wealth of experience both in tourism and publishing. Both are married to Bulgarian men.
Christine studied Modern Languages at Leeds University in England, where she first came into contact with Bulgaria, its language, literature and culture. She and her husband established the first English language city guide in Bulgaria (Sofia City guide) in 1993, as well as Bulgaria's English-language newspaper The Sofia Echo in 1997, which she still runs successfully. She has written and contributed to many publications about Bulgaria, and Sofia in particular.
Paromita is of Indo-German origin, British educated. A qualified interior designer she decided to ride out the UK recession in the building industry by working for a British tour operator. She was sent to Borovets in December 1992 to look after package tourists and met her husband there. Since then she has worked as editor of the Sofia City guide and a 'family matters' columnist for The Sofia Echo.
